The text that was published by NYT newspaper (February 19, 2006) for the great writer Francis Fukuyama requires an accurate and considerate reading.
The reason is not due to one’s scrutiny of the writer, but also of the content, which bears the title (after the Neo-Conservatism), what is renowned as “The Neo Conservatives”.
The text is a part of a book that was issued by Fukuyama last month, bearing the title: America at Crossroads.
In a few words, the book does not tone with the significance of the text, yet it was wanted for this small area of the paper. Fukuyama says that war on Iraq and the American failure moved the world from the stage of the Neo-Conservatism to a succeeding stage. He suggests advice on how to depart the crisis in which the US involved itself as a result of its political and military behavior towards Iraq and the region.
What is more important than the text is the public poll that was published with it. It bore one question: Did the war on Iraq divide the movement of the Neo Conservatives.
The answers of the participants in the poll were yes and no. Answer “Yes” gained 73% whereas the rest of the 27 went to “No”.
What did Iraq's war do to America?
Reading this text as well as other published texts of several writers and intellectuals gives a clear image about the beginning of the end of the stage of the Neo Conservatives – along with its content of the principles and concepts on the direct US hegemony – in the United States and the world.
